General Tso’s Chicken

Chinese food at home! Such a good thing! This recipe is pretty easy! It was delicious. it seems I am always saying that about the recipes I am blogging, but it is true! I do not post recipes that I don’t think are good enough for you to try! recipes on this blog are to  This General Tso’s chicken is definitely worth making!

I happened to have all of the ingredients to make General Tso’s Chicken which is why I picked this recipe to make!

Recipe is from I like a lot of the recipes from this website. They have always worked for me!

This  is a bit of a process, but it is worth it! It didn’t take too long to prepare, so if you come home hungry this would be an ok recipe for you to make!

Here is the recipe 


1 pound of green beans, washed & trimmed *** I used a whole bag of green beans from Costco & had some leftover over which was fine!

vegetable oil



1/4 cup cornstarch & 2 tbsp cornstarch

2 pounds of boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into 1 inch pieces *** I cut mine into strips as I thought this would cook faster…the recipe said to cut into chunks…

1/4 cup + 1 tbsp honey

1/4 cup soy sauce

1 garlic clove, minced or finely grated

3 tbsp rice vinegar, preferably unseasoned *** I only had seasoned rice vinegar….

1 tbsp Sriracha

1 tbsp tomato paste

1 tsp ginger

1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

3 tbsp water

1 green onion, sliced for garnish

cooked rice for serving with the chicken  *** I cooked my rice while I was preparing the chicken


  1. Toss the green beans with 1 tbsp or 2 of oil, salt & pepper & put onto a lined baking sheet. Roast the green beans in a hot oven…425f. Todd occasionally & cook until they are starting to blacken a bit…approx 15 minutes…Keep your eye on them.
  2. Mix the cornstarch, 1 1.2 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp pepper together in a large bowl.
  3. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a large skillet
  4. Toss the chicken pieces in the cornstarch mixture & coat each piece of chicken.
  5. Cook the chicken in the skillet, half at a time, turn the chicken as needed,  until the chicken is completely cooked & has a light brown crust. Cooking time will depend on the size of your chicken pieces… when the first half is cooked, remove it & set aside while you cook the second half
  6.  Mix the honey, soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, Sriracha, tomato paste, ginger, red pepper flakes, 3 tbsp water, & 1/4 salt & pepper together in a bowl
  7. When the second batch of chicken is cooked, add the first half back to the skillet.
  8. Add the honey mixture to the skillet. Toss the chicken to coat each piece in the sauce & cook for a couple of minutes until the sauce is thickened.
  9. Serve with the rice & green beans. Garnish with the sliced green onions
