Either way Brisket is delicious!
I grew up eating sweet Brisket. My mom made it so simply and it turned out great. She took a Pyrex 4 cup measure, put in some ketchup, maybe about a cup. Then some brown sugar. No one knows how much but a couple handfuls I think! She gave this a stir then added enough water up to the 4 cup mark. Next, mom sprinkled some garlic powder over top of the water, enough that you could see there was garlic powder! Always used a brisket with some fat on it, this gave the brisket lots of flavour. The brisket went into her blue enamel roaster pan that has a lid. Did she put onions in the bottom of the pan? I don’t memember but the little card that she wrote out how to make this didn’t include onions! ( I like to put sliced onions on the bottom, one or two depending on the size) The ‘sauce’ was poured all over the brisket. The lid went on and this was popped into the oven, a cold oven, temp was 325f. This brisket cooked for hours and hours until it was fork tender. Always covered. There was lots of liquid in the bottom of the pan that made a wonderful gravy. The side dish was usually Kasha so that the delicious gravy could be poured over top!
