When I was young, we never ate fresh broccoli. I remember eating canned corn & the frozen mixed vegetables! I started making broccoli for my own family, boiling was the way to go! Well, that’s ok if you like boiled or steamed broccoli. Then it seemed roasting vegetables became the craze & thankfully so! I like roast all kinds of vegetables. Olive oil & a shrinking of salt is how I do it.
So, I roasted some broccoli for dinner & decided to try it with a tahini sauce. Now this may be my favourite way to eat roasted broccoli!!` I drizzled the broccoli with tahini sauce when I was serving it. This brought the broccoli up to a whole new veggie level! The Tahini sauce recipe is from This Is A Cookbook by Max Sussman + Eli Sussman. I own a digital copy of this cookbook, stored in my iPad. There are several good recipes in this book that I hope to share with you in the future. This Tahini sauce is from a recipe for roasted cauliflower with caramelized onions. I have made that recipe several times so I knew this sauce would be great on roasted broccoli.

To roast the broccoli, wash & dry it , then cut it into small florets or bigger if you prefer. Then on a foil lined baking sheet, toss the broccoli with oil., I use about 1 – 2 tbsp oil, depends on how much broccoli you are roasting. I use canola oil since I roast the broccoli at a high heat. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Roast in a 400f degree oven until the broccoli starts to brown on the edges. Approx 15 minutes…time depends on the size of your broccoli pieces….
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup tahini
3 tbsp lemon juice, fresh *** it is about 1 – 1 1/2 lemons
1 tsp salt
1 clove garlic, crushed
Sesame seeds to garnish
- Mix all of the ingredients in a jar & shake to combine ***It is a bit of a weird thing…sometimes this sauce is thicker & sometimes runny… I think it depends on they type of tahini. The one I used today is not very thick. But, if the sauce is too thick add a little water…if is too runny, you could add more tahini if you want…but I did not because then the balance of flavour is disturbed. Adding a bit of water if it is too thick does not affect it as much
Drizzle your roasted broccoli with the tahini sauce & sprinkle some sesame seeds on to garnish
