Watergate Salad

The Watergate Salad originated in 1976 by a Sous Chef at the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C. I had heard about it many years ago but recently I saw this salad show up on some websites. It looked sweet & delicious so I had to try it!

It is exactly that… sweet & delicious. We could only eat a small amount at a time which was good! The taste is very interesting with the pistachio pudding & the colour is very pretty!

Only 4 ingredients, crushed pineapple, pistachio pudding, mini marshmallows & Cool Whip. All of these ingredients combined created this really fluffy desert that is called a salad. Watergate Salad. Once the salad was mixed together it is put into the refrigerator to chill & let the flavours combine well. I left mine in the fridge for about 2 hours but it really only needs an hour in the fridge

I used the recipe from Kraft Heinz Company. I only changed it by adding more marshmallows and I did not any nuts

Here’s the very easy & simple recipe for Watergate Salad

Ingredients

1 can 8 oz/236ml Crushed Pineapple, umdrained

1 3.4 oz/95 gr Pistachio Instant Pudding

2 cups mini marshmallows

2 cups defrosted Cool Whip

Method

  1. Put the can of undrained crushed pineapple into a large bowl
  2. Mix in the Pistachio Instant Pudding
  3. Next add the mini marshmallows & stir them in to the pineapple & pudding
  4. Lastly, the Cool Whip is added. Fold the Cool Whip in until everything is nicely combined
  5. Cover the bowl & put in the refrigerator for at least an hour before eating!

Many people ask me "how did you do that?" "will you show me how?' So I decided to make a blog about what I cook and bake. I am in no way a professional cook, but I love to feed people and try new things as well as making the "old foods" My friends are wonderful cooks, each with their own 'specialty' and i will be having guest cooks here, showcasing their favourite things to cook as well!! I hope you enjoy this blog and maybe decide to make some of these foods yourself! I am always available to answer any questions you might have about anything you see here. Some of my recipes are unique to me but most are not. They are all recipes I have found in a variety of ways, some are old family recipes that date back decades and some are new ones!
