A New Year Dinner of Appetizers!!

So do you remember the movie Mermaids? I think that Cher served her family appetizers for meals! That is my plan for New Years Eve this year! It will just be Murray and I so … appetizers it is for dinner! (and of course I am going to make a delicious dessert)

Here are some of my favourite appetizer recipes

Antipasto

This is my Aunt Marilyn Lyman’s recipe. I remember her making this & she gave me the recipe aver 30 years ago…. The recipe is just a bunch of jarred pickles, olives, tuna….& a few other ingredients…chopped up, mixed together & wow is it good!My aunt used to chop all fo the ingredients by hand but…

Artichoke Dip

This is such an easy appetizer. Only takes a few minutes to mix it together…& only has 3 ingredients  + one to sprinkle on the top if you want….It used to be on the party circuit & I haven’t seen it lately…or rather eaten it lately…so I decided to make it for company the other…

Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce by Amy Stopnicki

On my last visit to Toronto, I met Amy Stopnicki who is the author of a beautiful cookbook..KOSHER taste. She was so nice & gave me a copy of the cookbook. This recipe is the first one I made & it is great! She has given me permission to post her recipe. We ate this…

Cheddar Cheese Crackers with Pimento

OK… I buy crackers….but, I saw this recipe from bon appetit…& just had to try them. There is a huge problem though…they are soooo delicious that it is hard not to eat all of them at one time! They were surprisingly easy to make. The dough has to chill for at least 4 hours or…

Smoked Salmon Spread

Well, this was delicious!  Smoked salmon, cream cheese, mayo, horseradish, capers and parsley to garnish. It was all I could do but not eat the whole bowl at one time. Seriously!! In November I was in Toronto and had a smoked salmon sandwich on a bagel at the restaurant Schmaltz Appetizing, 414 Dupont St., and they had horseradish…

Glazed Mini Hotdogs

I did not close my deep freezer door properly the other day….I thought I had..but I guess it didn’t catch..anyway… luckily only a few things in the door were starting to defrost by the time Murray went to the freezer to put some food in there! Phew…I could have been cooking a freezer full of…

Many people ask me "how did you do that?" "will you show me how?' So I decided to make a blog about what I cook and bake. I am in no way a professional cook, but I love to feed people and try new things as well as making the "old foods" My friends are wonderful cooks, each with their own 'specialty' and i will be having guest cooks here, showcasing their favourite things to cook as well!! I hope you enjoy this blog and maybe decide to make some of these foods yourself! I am always available to answer any questions you might have about anything you see here. Some of my recipes are unique to me but most are not. They are all recipes I have found in a variety of ways, some are old family recipes that date back decades and some are new ones!
