Heart Cookies for a Bridal Shower

Co–hosting a bridal shower, one of my contributions were these heart shaped cookies. The recipe for these cookies is from MarthaStewart.com. The recipe is for conversation heart cookies that look like the conversation candies that are out at Valentines Day. I did not decorate the cookies I made in that way.

I have made sugar cookies many times. This recipe calls for the dough to be chilled, then rolled out, then the cut cookies to be chilled again before baking. Then they have to cool completely before they can be iced with the royal icing,  I have used royal icing to make animals for a jungle birthday cake for one of my kids when they were little but, I have not iced a cookie with the royal icing in this way, usually I use a cookie icing that dries shiny & more soft then the royal icing on my sugar cookies…that will be in another post.It took me quite awhile to ice the cookies as I was trying to be very careful so that the cookies would be nice! I was pleased with the outcome, although when we ate them, they were a bit hard, but royal icing is hard…

When I was trying to decide how to decorate the cookies,  I decided to use some royal icing pink flowers that I had made previously for a birthday cake I decorated for my granddaughter’s first birthday. I have lots of those flowers left & they last forever. I just waited for the icing on the cookie to harden, then used some icing I had kept in the fridge to ‘glue’ the flowers onto the cookie! It worked like a charm! Jacki brought me some edible glitter from London, England & I decided to use this on some of the cookies as well. The bride-to-be likes sparkly things so this would be perfect! They were very glittery & pretty,

I am not going to put the recipe here for the cookies but will give you the link. In the cookie recipe there is a link to the recipe for the royal icing.

Many people ask me "how did you do that?" "will you show me how?' So I decided to make a blog about what I cook and bake. I am in no way a professional cook, but I love to feed people and try new things as well as making the "old foods" My friends are wonderful cooks, each with their own 'specialty' and i will be having guest cooks here, showcasing their favourite things to cook as well!! I hope you enjoy this blog and maybe decide to make some of these foods yourself! I am always available to answer any questions you might have about anything you see here. Some of my recipes are unique to me but most are not. They are all recipes I have found in a variety of ways, some are old family recipes that date back decades and some are new ones!
